Celebrating Series – Lavada Dee

I’ve been wanting to showcase the series a good friend of mine writes for sometime, and today’s the day! You can’t go wrong with four brothers with the last name of Blackhawk based in Montana, right? I’ve enjoyed each book in this series, and as one of the people who got a sneak peek of book three, I’m very much looking forward to the next two books. The only down side is that there are only four brothers. I’m not going to be ready to stop reading about Blackhawk, Montana, and the family that shapes the small town into a friendly, helpful place.

Okay, I’d better stop there and turn this over to Lavada or you’ll be reading this blog all day! 🙂

Lavada says:

Lace, thank you for having me on your blog and part of your Series Celebration. Like you, I’ve found I love reading series, so no wonder I finally just had to write one.

The Blackhawk Brothers series is about four brothers. Native American and Irish heritage blend to make them a band of handsome, alpha males who meet their match with over the top heroines. Book one and two are published. Book three is written, but on the advice of my writing partners who want the last book to follow close behind. I’m holding off a bit before sending it to the publisher.

The books are stand-alone so can easily be read out of sequence.

Amazon Review

“I love romance books and tend to lean more to the erotic romance novels because plain romance just doesn’t make me feel the connection to the characters. While this one was not an erotic romance, the author did not leave me wanting.

Ms. Dee has written this book so well, that I felt all the love, lust, pain, and happiness that the need for my usual erotic novels wasn’t there. This is a quick read, and I will definitely be adding this author to my “must read” list.

Make sure you have a box of tissues handy because I surely needed them, not only for the sad parts but for the happy ones as well. I look forward to reading more about he Blackhawk brothers. Great book!”

Life has dealt Baylee Gallagher a hard hand but she embraces the saying that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. A fighter, she is used to getting what she wants. All she’s had to do is work harder and longer. Now with a successful career she is ready to start the next phase of her life, building a family. But, a family to her means a baby, not a man in her life. She’s set to use a sperm bank until she sees Doctor Grant Blackhawk. He’s perfect, and in her direct way she decides to just ask him to father her baby. With no prior warning she arranges to meet him.

Dr. Grant Blackhawk is blindsided when Baylee propositions him. He’s against single parenting by choice. He doesn’t see her request as a compliment and makes it crystal clear. So why can’t he get her out of his mind? Long after she is back in San Francisco, she is still haunting his dreams. Adding to his torment is the fact that the totem he denies exists is asserting itself. Its surreal instincts know Baylee is Grant’s mate, or in the pure human vernacular, his soul mate.

A Warrior’s Love – No cover yet and I can hardly wait to see what my publisher will come up with. Here’s an excerpt from the story.

A warm breeze flowed around them, and in the way of dreams, Nadia found herself standing in a clearing. Trees formed an umbrella over her and Tyrell.
“Are you afraid of me?”
She was surprised when she heard her voice answer. “No, I’m not afraid.”
His voice was low and deep, barely more than a whisper. It moved over, and through her. “You belong to me.”
“I belong to no one.”
“When you wake up you will know. Until then…” His hands spanned her waist, and he turned her so her back was to him. He put one arm just under her breasts letting the weight of them rest on his forearms.
He moved the other arm across her stomach, resting his hand so that his arms surrounded her. She should feel trapped by his power, instead felt enfolded in a warm, safe cocoon. He pulled her against him, showing her his desire.
She drew in a deep breath. They were in a high meadow, and she could see for miles. A soft breeze blew the grasses and the stars shone in a cloudless sky, illuminating the ground around them. Nadia could feel Tyrell’s lips move over her shoulder, scattering kisses. A low growl emanated from him, and again left her boneless.
She tried to turn, seeking his mouth with hers, but he held her fast.
“Shh, my love. Stay quiet and let me hold you.”

Release Day – Ivory Tower (Secrets book 2)

I’m thrilled to announce the release of book two in my Secrets series, Ivory Tower, which shows once again how secrets can hold someone back and keep them from becoming the person they are meant to be. In this story, you’ll get to know a little more about Drea Fortier as she tries to help another couple past the secrets that are a spiked wedge between them.

The world is full of secrets…

Drea Fortier, a reclusive philanthropist whose painful past influences her belief that there can be no happily ever after for her, reaches out to help others in the hope she can transform their pain and give them hope for the future. Drea’s own story, as well as that of her assistant, Michael Smith, is slowly revealed throughout the Secrets series.

Book Two: Ivory Tower

Jenna Wilton is afraid of getting lost. On the brink of moving from a life under the controlling thumb of her mother, to the arms of her husband, she’s afraid she will never have the chance to know herself. When a mysterious note bids her to leave in the middle of her wedding shower, she slips out the back door and into a world where the choices are hers to make.

And an excerpt:
Jenna Wilton closed her eyes and tried to shut out the hubbub around her. This was the fifth dress she’d tried on and one that put a smile on her face as she’d taken it off the rack. In a rare disagreement with her mother, she’d insisted on adding it to the pile.
Now, as the satin settled around her, so did a sense of rightness, of peace. The zipper’s teeth chuffed as the attendant closed the back. It fit like a glove, unlike the other dresses. Jenna felt the shirred bodice, ran her hands down the simple contour of the skirt. She knew the back was a touch longer to create the illusion of a train.
The soft swish of the fabric sang to her as she turned toward the mirror, her eyes still closed.
This is it. This is the dress I want to be married in. I can feel it.
Jenna opened her eyes. The loveliness reflected in the mirror validated Jenna’s vision. Her hair, more blonde than brown thanks to regular appointments, hung in soft curls to just below her shoulders. She’d keep it down. Josh liked it that way. And she liked how he played with her hair, running his fingers through it, tugging gently to pull her nearer.
The ivory, not white, of the silk, made her skin seem less pale and more vibrant. But mostly, the strapless gown elongated her throat and made non-descript blue eyes look larger than life. For the first time that she could recall, Jenna felt beautiful. This was definitely the dress.
The yank of the zipper and her mother’s shrill voice jarred Jenna back to reality and she yelped.
“Stand still,” Patricia Wilton said as she ripped the zipper down. “I told you. This dress absolutely will not do. Good grief, Jenna. You look like a plain Jane in it.”
“This is the dress I want.”
Jenna could almost see the skin tightening around her mother’s mouth.
“I will hear no more about this,” the matriarch said, tugging the strapless dress over Jenna’s hips.
Jenna glanced around the white-dress filled room, trying to calm nerves that never could quite settle around her mother. And, since she’d moved back home after her father died two years earlier, another idea of her mother’s, it meant her nerves were perennially frayed. She glanced skyward, wishing again that her father hadn’t asked so much of her. If she’d known what “be patient with your mother” had meant, she’d never have promised.

Welcome Elodie Parkes

Okay, so I may have mentioned, once or twice, that I’m a bit of a cover whore. I love great book covers. I actually used to beg authors not to put that “signed by author” sticker on the front of books I bought because it detracted from the cover. Nowadays, I mostly buy eBooks, so thankfully, that’s no longer an issue.

Anyhow, today, I’m showcasing a new book by Elodie Parkes titled Unexpected StormAs soon as I saw this cover, I had to take a closer look. I love storms, so it was easy for me to fall in love with the cover. 🙂

The blurb:
When Holly takes a vacation with friends, she never dreams she will meet someone who turns her lonely life around in just one afternoon…the question is, can this kind of heat last…
‘Unexpected Storm,’ released June 21, from Secret Cravings Publishing.

A quickie excerpt:
Will brought his other hand gently around Holly’s head, held her, and watched her eyes as he descended on her mouth.
His fingers against her ear sparked rivulets of sensation. They trickled goose bumps down her neck to her breasts.
His kiss was soft, sexy, lingering, and when he stopped, Holly followed his mouth with hers, the desperation for more kisses driving her.
Rain beat on the roof of the beach hut. People talked loudly so they could be heard. The girls, who’d squealed earlier, squealed again as thunder rolled overhead. The air was warm, sticky, vaguely smelling of rush matting, seaweed, the ocean. Holly felt sweat trickle down between her shoulder blades. It beaded under her hairline and on her top lip. She quickly licked it away and noticed how Will watched her tongue hungrily.

Celebrating Series – Faye Avalon

Today, I’m showcasing three stories by Faye Avalon. I originally picked up these books because I LOVED the covers. Okay, I’m a bit of a cover whore. I am drawn to great covers, especially sexy or sultry one. These stories lived up to their covers. I was embedded in the character’s lives and loved them from beginning to end. So I invited Faye to be part of my Celebrating Series. I asked Faye to explain the overall concept of her Brighton Heat series, and here’s what she had to say:

I’m fascinated by the concept of the ménage a trios. In many a romance novel, the characters enjoying a ménage often remain together, but what if they indulged in a one-night-stand and then parted to go their own way? What might be the repercussions? This is the underpinning theme of my Brighton Heat series, where Ethan, Marco and Lissa come to realize that the night they threw caution to the wind has come back to haunt them. Each character has their own story, all linked by that one night ménage, but each story can be read as a standalone novel.

Bad in Bed
Brighton Heat Book 1 – Ethan and Amber’s story
Amber walked right into a cliché when she found her fiancé in bed with her best friend. With plenty of practice, she plans to discredit his claims that she is lousy in bed, but his warning that her physical scars repulse men is more difficult to bear.

Memories of his past have taught Ethan to keep women at a healthy distance. Instantly attracted to Amber, he finds it strange that she’s happy to indulge in a quickie in a shop doorway, yet resists his attempts to get her naked.

When her secrets are revealed, Ethan sets out to make Amber see that not only is she dynamite in bed, her scars in no way diminish how desirable she is. When Ethan enlists the help of his friend Marco and sets up a threesome, he hopes this will not only improve Amber’s sexual confidence, but will prevent him from losing his heart.
Up All Night
Brighton Heat Book 2 – Marco and Beth’s story
Following a cruel betrayal, the last thing Beth Devlin needs is a man with sinful good looks and a reputation for love-them-and-leave-them-gasping affairs with women. But unable to resist his determined pursuit, Beth soon discovers that no-holds-barred sex with a master of the genre is the perfect remedy for her flagging confidence and painful past.

Marco Zutini has learned to separate emotion from sex. With affairs that last no longer than a month, he can move on before things get complicated. But while he is more than happy to tutor Beth in the ways of carnal pleasure, there is one small problem—she fires up much more than his libido.

Soon Marco is questioning the wisdom of his one-month-only rule, until a revelation from his past reopens Beth’s emotional wounds and puts any chance of a future in jeopardy.
Turn Me On
Brighton Heat Book 3 – Lissa and Reed’s story

Recognizing the groom and best man as men she once enjoyed a ménage, Lissa Delaney’s attempts to avoid them during the wedding drive her straight into the arms of the groom’s cousin. Getting involved with Reed Fitzgerald is bad news, especially since the two men dislike each other, but the attraction is too powerful and soon Lissa is sharing Reed’s bed.
With an ex-lover determined to hold him to a drunken promise, Reed Fitzgerald thinks Lissa might well be his out-clause, especially since she’s up to her pretty neck in debt. His unlikely proposition will solve both their problems and, considering the explosive sex they enjoy, promises to provide plenty of recreational benefits along the way.
But what started as a temporary agreement soon develops into something more meaningful, until a chance meeting sends Reed into a jealous rage and threatens to destroy what they have been building.

Tequila Mockingbird by Jillian Chantal

I have this wonderful friend, Jillian Chantal, whom I’ve only met once, but consider to be one of my closest friends. I should qualify that I’ve only met her once in person. We “talk” regularly through email and blogs and have shared many ups and downs in life and in this business of writing over the past several years. So today, I thought I’d showcase one of her books (my personal favorite). Except it looks like Jillian’s been taken over (again) by one of her characters:

TequilaMockingbird_MEDHello, My name is Kes Falco and I am the hero in Tequila Mockingbird by Jillian Chantal. Jillian was invited to do a guest post here but she’s been lazy and so I thought I would take over and talk a little about my adventure in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with a stuffy lady lawyer who really got on my nerves.
Have you ever seen that movie called Romancing the Stone? You know, the one with Michael Douglas, the adventurer who has mad jungle skills? The one where Kathleen Turner gets all over his case and drives him nuts as he attempts to assist her?
Well, this book is nothing like that unless you consider a tale about a handsome (cough, cough) man in the jungle who is slowly being tortured by a woman who only wants to save her sister from some horrible fate but seems instead to always cause the man grief to be the same kind of story.
I am an agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency and work undercover against the drug trade coming from Mexico. When a former friend’s sister is abducted, I am tasked with trying to get the young woman back but I am saddled with the sister who can’t seem to forgive me for a sin I didn’t commit. We embark on a journey that is some parts danger and some parts fun (Okay, yeah, I admit it, some of the time, she is tolerable).
Here’s an excerpt from the story- this is when Rachel arrives in Mexico from Los Angeles after her sister has been abducted:
Rachel made her own way to baggage claim and through customs. She’d packed a large bag to leave at the hotel where she planned to get a room. She also had a medium size backpack to carry any essentials she might need on the quest to find Annette. She hoped the person Orry called for assistance could recommend a hotel and that the federales that he knew would be helpful.
She grabbed her large suitcase from the carousel and turned to see if she could figure out who might be trying to find her in order to pick her up. Her eyes scanned the crowd. When she spotted a tall man in jeans and a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow leaning with his shoulder on the wall, she did a double take. She couldn’t believe it.
She stalked toward him as he stood grinning that lopsided smile that hadn’t ever affected her before last week. Damn. He did look good but what the heck was he doing in Puerto Vallarta? She couldn’t help but wonder why he’d agree to help. She hadn’t been exactly friendly in the past and there was that shared kiss and her slap between them now. He looked happy enough to see her but she still approached him with trepidation.
She dragged her bag over and stopped right in front of him. “Hello Kes. What are you doing here?”
“I live here.”
“ Ha ha. You’re so witty. Now tell me the truth. Did Orry call you to meet me down here?”
“I really do live here, Rachel. I moved down when Deidre and I broke up. I’m very happy and settled in. I’ve acclimated myself to the area and have contacts with lots of different locals. Orry thought I might could assist in finding Annette if she’s here. I tend to agree since I do know people all over the area. I’m glad to help if you think you can work with me without discussing Deidre. As much as I care about your sister and your family, I won’t be badgered by you about my personal life. Can you deal with that?”
“I can. I want to find her and I can keep my mouth shut if that’s what it takes.”
“Then let’s go.” Kes picked up her suitcase and led her out the sliding doors to the parking lot.
She followed him until he stopped at an old truck. She laughed. “This is what you’re driving?”
‘Sure. Why not? It’s suited to my life here.” He shrugged and tossed her bag into the open bed.
“It’s a big step down from your old beemer.”
“No need for a BMW here. I spend a lot of time in the hills and even though that car had some power, it’s woefully inadequate for the mountains here.”
“And this old heap is adequate?”
“It sure is.” He nodded to her door. “Get in.”

Thanks for allowing me to come by today and visit. It was a pleasure and I hope Jillian is grateful that I saved her some work but I doubt it. She can be an ungrateful wretch on occasion. Peace out, Kes.

Celebrating Series – Anthea Sharp

Because I like reading in a lot of different genres, today’s Celebrating Series selection is Young Adult. In fact, it’s one of my favorite YA series, since it’s both futuristic and realistic. I bought completely into the concept of Anthea Sharp’s Feyland series due to the depth of the characters and the well-rounded world she’s created. I welcome Anthea’s stories to my newsblog today and highly recommend them:

The award-winning Feyland Series by Anthea Sharp

Her only hope is elite gamer Tam Linn, a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, who’s grown up in a world full of poverty and hardship. “This is a great series that deserves more attention. The books are quick and exciting reads, and if you like stories based on fairy tales, or if you enjoyed both the portrayal of the fae in Mercy Thompson and October Daye and the virtual world of Ready Player One, you will love this series.” – Kate, Epic Chocolate Fantasy

“Ms. Sharp is a master storyteller… The Feyland books have found a prized place on my all-time favorite books list.” – Rebecca McKinnon, The Crooked Word
